When you see a team struggle to get the ball over the plate, it reminds us of how great a job our pitchers do. The Sycamore squad walked 8 batters in the 1st. The big hit of the inning was delivered by Mark as he laced a 3 run single. Garrett followed with a single to drive in Mark. What a way to start! Matthew led of the 3rd and delivered his second hit of the game and was driven in by Nick's single later in the inning that also scored Jacob. Matthew (2), Mark, Garrett, Nick, and Hans had hits and runs were scored by Mathew (3), Mark (2), Jacob, Adam, Mason, Peter (2), Taco, and Hans.
Peter showed his arm is strengthening as he delivered our longest outing of the year - 4 1/3 innings. Jacob finished the last 1 2/3 innings which included a 1-2-3 6th after Sycamore had fought back to within 4 runs. Jacob has been lights in his time on the mound.
Only 3 Sycamore players struck out which means our D was once again spectacular. Peter handled 2 grounders in the 1st and Adam made a put out from SS in the 1st. Mark had a "Heads up" play in the 2nd as a Sycamore batter laced a single up the middle. Mark attacked the ball from his CF spot and beat the runner with his throw to 2B! What a play! Nick and Matthew
made put outs in the 3rd, and Mark caught a pop up from 2B in the 4th. And we recorded our first two double plays of the year! In the second, a Sycamore batter grounded out to 1B. After Henry made the put out he alertly spied a Sycamore runner trying to advance from 2B to 3B. Henry thought that was rude so he fired to Matthew at 3B for the last out of the inning. Later in the game, the play was repeated with Jacob making the put out at 1B and also firing to 3B to nab a Sycamore base-runner. Jacob also made a diving catch from 1B - way to go Jacob.
Behind the plate, Hans continues to get better every game and we unveiled a new catcher as Peter strapped on the gear for the first time in his Joes career.
