Apparently, the Joes need bigger challenges. For the second time in three games the Joes ended another team's perfect season. Now let me tell you, these are not 2-0, 3-0, or 4-0 teams the Joes are knocking off. No, these teams were a combined 17-0! Are you kidding me? The Joes proved once again that a good TEAM will beat a group of individuals any day. By the end of the game, the opponent had been knocked completely off their game while the Joes just went about their usual business. And their business? Great baseball. Pure and simple.
As is becoming the norm, the Joes showed their balance by playing all three areas of the game with excellence. The bats were like thunder, the gloves like vacuums, and the pitching like lightening. And in the end, aggressive base running again made the difference as Taco alertly rounded 3B and scored (did you see that speed?) to seal the W - a run rule 4th inning win against an undefeated team. Wow. A great, heads-up play by Taco.
There was production up and down the line-up as hits were recorded by Patrick (2), Henry, Hans (who missed an over-the-wall dinger by 22 1/4 inches - and did you see Coach Markey's "Carlton Fisk" impression on that one?), Jacob, and Jon Jon. In fact, Jon Jon's hit was HUGE as it set up the winning run in the 4th inning. Runs were scored by Patrick, Matthew, Peter, Jacob (2), Mark, Mason (2), Taco, and Jon Jon.
On the hill, Matthew was simply outstanding. 4 innings, 9 K's against 16 batters (over 50%), only 2 hits, and 1 walk. What more can I say? What more could he do?
The D again showed that if a ball is hit, they will field it. Patrick's effort behind the plate continues to excel as he keeps all base runners on edge and all balls front of him. Garrett made one of the nicest plays you will ever see as he ranged back and to his right to snare a pop-up to end the 2nd and save a run. Henry nabbed a tricky pop- up in foul territory in the 3rd, and Matthew helped himself with a 1-3 put-out in the 4th.
Speaking of Henry, you may have noticed the blue wrist band as he made that catch or as he pounded out his hit. "Mr. Lunch Pail" did what he always does - his job. Henry comes to every practice, every game, listens to his coaches, and supports his teammates. Henry loves baseball, works hard at it, and is a joy to coach. GREAT JOB HENRY!
